Russell’s cabins

Russell’s Cabins is our newest off-grid accommodation experience just a few minutes’ walk from our Guest House.

Perched high above the Waipara Valley and surrounded by native plants, the set of three Cabins are a design-lover’s bolthole. A fusion of luxury and a true kiwi camping experience, Russell’s Cabins draw upon a New Zealand icon, the DOC hut, as the primary inspiration.

The Cabins can be booked separately or in conjunction with Kumiko’s Guest House. When booking as a single couple, we block out the second sleeping cabin so that you can have the entire space to yourselves.

the bedrooms

Two of the three macrocarpa cabins offer comfortable and bespoke sleeping spaces that can accommodate a maximum of 4 guests at any one time. These spaces have been kitted out with wooden slat beds, organic mattresses, feather duvets, linen sheets, Barebones lamps, and other curated pieces to bring comfort and calm. We provide hot water bottles* and extra duvets for the cooler winter months to ensure your stay is warm and cozy.

the living space

The third cabin is a living space that gives you the chance to relax and take in the stunning setting. The living space includes a vintage sofa and transistor radio.

The cabin is flanked by decking and comfortable outdoor furniture.

amenities

Most people who stay at Russell’s Cabins intend to eat out at the many wineries which are all in walking, biking, or driving distance. We offer basic outdoor cooking facilities - a camping stove for boiling your own water and making toast - as well as  simple but delicious local breakfast provisions.

There is no indoor heating but we have an outdoor gas heater to make those cooler evenings extra cosy.

Bathroom, Outdoor Shower and bath

A hand basin and composting toilet in a separate bathroom and a private outdoor shower and bath with a view are unique features giving us the opportunity to embrace the natural setting in a eco-friendly way.

what our guests have to say

“Thank you very much for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. We tend to seek out more interesting places to stay when we travel and have been small accomodation hosts ourselves in the past so really appreciated the cabins. Their simplicity is superb and yet we found there was everything we needed whether it was matches in a waterproof bag or wine glasses.”

-

“Firstly thank you so much we loved our stay in the cabins. The quality of everything was top notch.  The bed was “soooooo” comfortable and the sheets were to die for- so much so that my wife is feverishly looking online for them. We loved the privacy and the views, the supplied brekky along with early morning bird song made it fabulous. We will definitely recommend “Russels” to all our friends. “

“We absolutely LOVED our time at the cabins. It was the perfect getaway and worked very well for us as a group of friends exploring the wineries / walks in the area.”
